Privacy Policy
Effective August 18, 2026 · theOhFace is operated by Apex Media Group Inc.
We built theOhFace to be a place for the community, run with the community. Part of that is being honest about the data we collect and why. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
Information you give us
- Account: your email address, display name, and @handle. Optionally a bio and profile picture.
- Content: the posts, images, videos, reactions, replies, reposts, reports, and ideas you submit.
- Payouts: if you choose to receive payouts, the payout method and account details you enter (e.g., a PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle handle), and any tax information we are legally required to collect. You enter these yourself; we never ask for them by email or message.
Information we collect automatically
- Device & browser: your browser type and version, operating system, and device type, derived from your browser's user-agent.
- Approximate location: we estimate an approximate, city-level location from your IP address (we do not collect precise/GPS location). Your IP address is also stored in our security logs.
- Usage & logs: pages you request, timestamps, and referring pages, kept in our request and error logs to run and secure the service. These logs are retained for 90 days and are accessible only to administrators.
- Presence: to show live "who's here" counts, we record that your session was recently active.
Cookies & similar technologies
We use a small number of cookies and similar storage:
- Essential: a login/session cookie, a security (CSRF) token, and a per-session flag for the Unfiltered-feed disclaimer. The site does not work without these.
- Preferences: your theme choice, stored in your browser.
- Analytics: cookies set by the analytics tools below.
Analytics & third-party services
- Google Analytics (GA4): aggregate traffic and usage analytics. Google may set cookies and process data per its own policies.
- Microsoft Clarity: heatmaps and session recordings of interactions with the site to help us understand usability. Recordings capture how you move and click; sensitive input fields are masked by Clarity.
- IP geolocation: we use a third-party lookup to turn an IP into an approximate city; the IP is sent to that provider solely for this lookup.
- Payout processors: when payouts are made, they are completed through the provider you chose (e.g., PayPal, Venmo, Zelle), which handles that transaction under its own terms.
- Hosting: the site and database are hosted on Microsoft Azure.
How we use your information
- To operate the platform — publishing posts, feeds, reactions, and payouts.
- To keep the community healthy — moderation, community review, trust/standing, and preventing spam and abuse.
- To calculate and deliver community payouts transparently.
- To secure the service and diagnose problems.
- To understand and improve how the site is used.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not run third-party advertising that pays to target you.
Sharing
We share personal information only with the service providers above (analytics, geolocation, payout processors, hosting) as needed to run theOhFace, and when required by law or to protect the safety and rights of the community.
Your choices & rights
- You can view and update your profile, and request correction or deletion of your account and content.
- You can opt out of analytics using your browser's controls (e.g., blocking cookies or using a "Do Not Track" / opt-out extension).
- Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (access, deletion, portability, objection). Contact us to exercise them.
Children
theOhFace is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will remove it.
Data retention & security
We keep account and content data while your account is active. Security and request logs are kept for 90 days. We use reasonable technical measures (encryption in transit, hashed passwords, access controls) to protect your data, though no system is perfectly secure.
Changes
We may update this policy as the platform evolves. We'll post the new effective date here and, for significant changes, let the community know.
